I've been meditating on these profound words from 1 Timothy today: 'I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.'
In our divided times, this hits differently. Notice it doesn't say "pray for leaders you voted for" or "support policies you agree with." It calls us to pray for ALL those in authority. That's a challenging message for many of us (myself included!) π
But here's what strikes me - this instruction isn't just about the leaders themselves. It's about creating a foundation for peaceful, stable communities where we can all flourish. When we pray for our leaders:
This week, I'm committing to pray daily for our local and national leaders, regardless of party or position. Not that they'll necessarily do what I want, but that they'll be guided by wisdom and serve with integrity.
In a world quick to criticize and slow to pray, maybe this ancient wisdom is exactly what we need right now.
